Google Honours Achebe On Post-Humous Birthday

Global internet giant, Google has honoured late Nigerian literary icon, Chinua Achebe on the anniversary of his87 th birthday, November16,2017 with a Google doodle. Achebe the revered icon of African literature was paid respects of its homepage by Google, drawing praise and accolades by many Nigerians and Africans on the continent and beyond.

In a tweet on the same day, Google Africa said: ”Today we celebrate Chinua Achebe ‘s 87th birthday. Considered by many to be the father of modern African Literature Chinua Achebe has touched many lives with his words”.#GoogleDoodle.

The late novelist was born in 1930 in Ogidi,an Ndigbo town in the South East area of Nigeria.

His most popular novel Things Fall Apart which was published in 1958 remains a classic that has been translated to over 30 languages round the world. Achebe taught English and Literature for many years in the United States and died on March 21,2013 in Boston,US after a brief illness.

For Google, the Achebe remembrance GoogleDoodle is a great brand building effort which should endear the Google brand to the majority of Nigerian and African users of the internet platform.
