Obinna Anichie has returned to AIrtel Nigeria and has been named general manager, Brands at the Nigerian GSM network operator. Anichie who had worked at Airtel Nigeria for several years previously, before being sent abroad to other Bharti Airtel operations in Europe where he was until a recent recall back to the country. He had previously held the position of general manager, marketing at the GSM network operator. For two years, from June 2011 to July,2013, Anichie had worked at Bharti Airtel headquarters at the Netherlands as general manager Brand Assets& Marketing properties.
Anichie’s recall may have been informed by the recent abrupt resignation of Airtel Nigeria’s marketing director, Olu Akanmu, who only stayed for three months at the company. And the subsequent departure of Eyitemi Taire, the GSM operator’s erstwhile Head of Marketing Communications also only a few weeks after Akanmu’s exit.
Taire has been appointed customer Marketing director by leading brewer, Guinness Nigeria Plc in July,2013.Taire had earlier worked for rival Heineken/Nigerian Breweries where she had been marketing manager for the Heineken brand for several years.
Anichie would oversee the growth of the various Airtel brands, particularly their advertising and communications at a time when competition from other network operators is so fierce.
